Our Three Predictions For Birmingham City vs Sheffield Wednesday:

  • First Prediction For Birmingham City vs Sheffield Wednesday: Match Result – Birmingham City – 2/5
  • Second Prediction For Birmingham City vs Sheffield Wednesday: Over 2.5 Goals – 5/6
  • Third Prediction For Birmingham City vs Sheffield Wednesday: Both Teams To Score – Yes – 11/10

First Prediction For Birmingham City vs Sheffield Wednesday: Match Result – Birmingham City – 2/5

Birmingham have had a solid start to the season, but were given a reality check at Coventry City yesterday afternoon. Trailing by a goal heading into the break, Jack Robinson picked up his second yellow and left them with a mountain to climb. Bright Osayi-Samuel effectively ended the game as a contest four minutes into the second half when he put through his own net, before the Sky Blues sealed the points late on. The Owls finally broke their home duck, picking up their first point of the season at Hillsborough thanks to Dominic Iorfa’s header. But despite their good away form, which is ranked thirteenth in the second tier, expect them to come unstuck in the Second City.

Second Prediction For Birmingham City vs Sheffield Wednesday: Over 2.5 Goals – 5/6

These two sides have actually been among the lowest scorers in the Championship this season. Despite all their attacking prowess on paper, Birmingham’s five is only above the Owls city rivals Sheffield United, while Wednesday themselves have scored six, though five of them goals have been away from S6. But the Blues have been defensively sound in their opening fixtures, keeping two clean sheets and only shipping eight goals. The same cannot be said for Wednesday, who have the second-worst defence in the second tier with thirteen against, so expect a contest with some goals on Tuesday evening.

Third Prediction For Birmingham City vs Sheffield Wednesday: Both Teams To Score – Yes – 11/10

This has been a regular second-tier fixture over the past decade, bar the short spell both teams had in League One. Three of the last four encounters have been decided by a single goal, shared equally been the home and away sides. Six of the last nine meetings have seen both sides find the net, and despite the obvious difference in the direction these clubs are going, expect that feat to be achieved once more under the lights on Tuesday.

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head-To-Head:

Birmingham City are finding their feet in the Championship after their record-breaking promotion last season. The Blues stormed to the League One title with an incredible points tally of 111 points, breaking the world record for most points accumulated in a professional league season. With 34 wins in the third tier last term, Chris Davies’ outfit were always going to have fewer victories on the board this campaign. But they were heading for an impressive opening day victory over Ipswich Town, a side they are hoping to replicate in achieving successive promotions from the third tier to the Premier League, thanks to Jay Stansfield’s opener. But George Hirst salvaged a point for the Tractor Boys in the fifth minute of stoppage time from the penalty spot. The former Fulham striker ensured that Birmingham progressed against Sheffield United in the Carabao Cup.

A third goal in three games from the penalty spot brought the Blues level at Blackburn Rovers in stoppage time, before Lyndon Dykes completed an incredible turnaround. Oxford United came to St Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park and returned home pointless after Paik Seung-Ho scored the game’s only goal. But Port Vale brought their unbeaten start to an abrupt end in the League Cup 2nd Round. And Leicester City compounded their misery at the end of August, showing the current gulf between the two Midlands sides as goals from Abdul Fatawu and Ricardo Pereira earned the Foxes all three points. Into September, and the Blues returned from the international break with another disappointing showing at Stoke City. The Potters had begun the season in fine form, but only needed a scrappy goal from Bosun Lawal to see off the West Midlanders, who failed to have a shot on target at the bet365 Stadium. But the winning feeling returned to the Second City when Dykes scored another stoppage-time winner against Swansea City. While yesterday afternoon, Chris Davies had an afternoon to forget at local rivals Coventry City, losing three-nil without a shot on target.

The off-field problems continue to mount at Hillsborough. Sheffield Wednesday now have five embargoes to their name on the EFL website, for the following issues: Future Financial Information, Secure Funding, HMRC Reporting, Amounts due to another club & Football Creditors. With news that the players, along with members of staff, aren’t expected to be paid on time once again this month, expect that list to have a new entry in the next seven days. Incredibly, that doesn’t even scratch the surface of Dejphon Chansiri’s reign, and while the endgame should be in sight with these mounting issues, the Thai businessman appears to be going nowhere unless forced. Unfortunately, the new football regulator isn’t in practice yet, as that may help force the 57-year-old’s hand, but in the meantime, at least, and for reasons unbeknownst to most, Chansiri is here to stay. In spite of all the issues, Wednesday miraculously picked up their first win of the season eight days ago at Portsmouth to move out of the bottom three. A superb Barry Bannan free-kick, whose appreciation in S6 continues to grow, came just after another set of protests in the tenth minute of the contest at Fratton Park. For the second, George Brown briefly contemplated putting the ball out of play as Conor Shaughnessy hit the deck.

But Wednesday cannot afford luxuries like sportsmanship at such a critical moment in the club’s 158-year history, and the Championship debutant raced forward and emphatically sealed the points. The Owls’ start to the campaign has been mildly encouraging, given all the chaos at the club. A narrow opening day reverse at Leicester City came only after their skipper was sent off, while a very young Wednesday side overcame Bolton Wanderers on penalties following a six-goal thriller in the Carabao Cup. It’s at Hillsborough where their results have been worse, failing to score a second-tier goal in the losses against Stoke City, Swansea City and Bristol City earlier this month. That run was finally brought to an end yesterday when they took a point against Queens Park Rangers. Fans are being encouraged to boycott by the Supporters Trust, while those who do continue attending games have been urged not to spend to money inside the home stadium. Cup games were a particular focus, as Wednesday somehow defeated Leeds United on penalties before bowing out against Grimsby Town. The Owls’ only other result thus far was an unlikely draw at Wrexham, recovering from a two-goal deficit to snatch a late point.
