Sheffield United Step Up Hunt For Premier League Talent

Sheffield United are reported to have stepped up their pursuit of Brighton & Hove Albion winger Amario Cozier-Duberry, who is currently impressing on loan at Bolton Wanderers.

The 20-year-old has started the League One season brightly, and his form has not gone unnoticed at Bramall Lane.

Blades eye Cozier-Duberry after strong start at Bolton

Cozier-Duberry, once of Arsenal’s academy, opted to join Brighton last year after rejecting a new deal at the Emirates. He spent the 2024/25 campaign on loan with Blackburn Rovers in the Championship, before stepping down a level for more minutes this summer with Bolton. The move has paid off handsomely, with two goals and three assists in his first nine appearances for Steven Schumacher’s side.

According to reports, United scouts were in attendance as the winger starred in Bolton’s 4-1 victory over Wigan Athletic, adding fuel to speculation of a January move. It is unclear whether any approach would involve ending his current loan early, but newly reappointed Blades manager Chris Wilder may look to add attacking reinforcements when the window opens.

Bolton boss praise

Cozier-Duberry’s form has also been praised by Schumacher, who revealed the positive reviews that followed the youngster from his spell at Blackburn.

“We knew we’d signed a good player on loan because we’d done our homework on him,” Schumacher said. “I can’t say I’m fully surprised, but I’m delighted with how it’s gone for him, he’s been a joy to work with.”

For Bolton, the situation presents a challenge. The Trotters have benefited from the winger’s creativity and dynamism, and losing him mid-season would be a blow.

For Brighton, however, the chance to see one of their prospects tested at Championship level again may prove tempting, especially if Sheffield United push to secure his services in January.

Writer’s View

Cozier-Duberry’s emergence has been one of the early stories of the League One season, and his blend of pace, direct running and end product makes him an attractive option for a Sheffield United side seeking to inject freshness.

Bolton will be desperate to keep him, but if the Blades firm up their interest, Brighton may decide that accelerating his development in the second tier is the logical step. Either way, his trajectory suggests he will not be playing third-tier football for long, with his name increasingly linked to clubs chasing promotion or Premier League survival.
