Blackpool head Steve Bruce has discussed the possibility of Jerry Yates signing for the League One club as his Swansea City future looks to be over.
Reports from Tom Coleman of Wales Online last week stated that the former Derby County loanee had plenty of suitors, including the Seasiders, and in a new update, Blackpool were handed a blow with it being Yates’ preference to stay in the Championship. Nevertheless, a move to Bloomfield Road remains on the cards, potentially ending his two-year absence from the club.
Bruce Discusses Yates Move
With Blackpool now needing a new striker following the sale of Rob Apter to Charlton Athletic, Yates has become target number one following his his fruitful three-year stint at the club. Of course, other options have been named, with a report from yesterday linking Dale Taylor to the club after his success at Wigan Athletic on loan from Nottingham Forest.
Speaking to the Blackpool Gazette about any potential move for Yates, manager Steve Bruce delivered the current state of play surrounding the Swansea City man.
“If it was possible, then everyone would like to bring Jerry back. The problem is, he plays in the league above, and if he’s got suitors there then it’d be very difficult.
“We’d all like Jerry back, but whether it’s possible, let’s watch this space. We haven’t held preliminary talks, but I keep seeing ‘Jerry Yates this and Jerry Yates that.’
“If it’s at all possible then we’ll do it, but he’s at a club in a higher division, which is the problem.”
Following a second straight season in League One without playoff football, Bruce has looked to increase his chances of goals with the statement signing of Niall Ennis from Stoke City last month, with Kylian Kouassi returning to the club after a loan spell at Salford City.

Writers’ View
Blackpool aren’t deterred by their less than ideal chances of signing Jerry Yates this summer, and it feels that there is a deal to be made with the fact he is a former Tangerine. Of course with his preference being a Championship move, Steve Bruce is on the backfoot to convince him to return to Bloomfield Road, but of course nothing can be ruled out. With Dale Taylor also being an option, a deal may never materialise but no matter which option Blackpool choose, they will have the money to spend after securing a big fee for Rob Apter.
