Charlton Athletic have confirmed the signing of winger Rob Apter from Blackpool in a move that highlights the club’s summer ambition.
The 22-year-old arrives on a four-year deal after a breakthrough campaign in League One under Steve Bruce.
Charlton Secure Apter After Standout Season at Blackpool
The winger scored eight goals and registered eight assists last season in League One, his first full campaign as a regular at Bloomfield Road. His form included a memorable hat-trick away to Stevenage on Good Friday, and it followed an outstanding loan at Tranmere Rovers during the 2023–24 season, where he was named EFL League Two Young Player of the Season after scoring 13 goals and assisting six more.
Apter, who began his career in Tranmere’s academy before joining Blackpool as a teenager, made his senior debut in 2020. He featured intermittently before gaining experience through loans at Bamber Bridge, Chester, Scunthorpe United, and Tranmere. That grounding helped him return to Blackpool ready to compete for a starting role, which he grasped under Steve Bruce.
Bruce had been reluctant to lose the Liverpool-born winger, praising his ability to beat defenders and create moments of magic. However, the financial package and the lure of Championship football proved decisive.
“He’s a dying breed. He’s one of those that can go past people and make something happen,” Bruce said. “None of us wanted him to go, but everyone’s got their price.”
Apter joins Charlton’s pre-season training camp in Slovenia and links up with new signings Sonny Carey, Thomas Kaminski, Tanto Olaofe, Amari’i Bell, Reece Burke, and Joe Rankin-Costello. The move also reunites him with Championship football, where he made his debut for Blackpool in 2021 by recording an assist in a 5-0 win over Wigan Athletic.
Still only 22, Apter has also been capped at youth level by Scotland and most recently featured for their Under-21s.

Writer’s View
This is a smart, forward-thinking signing by Charlton. Rob Apter is exactly the type of wide player who can flourish under Nathan Jones – direct, confident, and technically sharp. His journey through the divisions has built resilience and rounded his game, and now he gets a deserved opportunity to step up.
For Blackpool, it’s a blow to lose a homegrown talent just as he was finding form, but the deal represents value for both clubs. Apter’s ability to both score and assist could make him one of the Championship’s breakout players this season if he adapts quickly to the level.
