European Side Interested In Sheffield United Star

Sheffield United‘s Gustavo Hamer has been shortlisted by PSV Eindhoven as a potential target as his Blades future remains uncertain.

After falling short in the Championship playoff final to Sunderland, there’s been plenty of change at Bramall Lane, with the most prominent move being the sacking of Chris Wilder in order to appoint Ruben Selles as his replacement. Missing out on Premier League football has meant that some of their best stars have been linked with moves away.

Leeds Face Competition

Hamer is no exception to that rule, with long-standing interest coming from the Premier League. According to TalkSPORT at the end of May, both Leeds United and Everton were interested in recruiting the Dutch winger, and it is Daniel Farke’s side who have retained their interest over the following weeks.

However, The Whites may not have a straightforward path to signing the 28-year-old as reports from Dutch outlet ED.nl, PSV Eindhoven are interested in signing Hamer, who had previously played in the Eredivisie for Feyenoord. The report suggests that it would cost between €8 to 12 million (£6.8-£10.2 million).

PSV’s interest is dependent on the back-to-back Dutch champions selling star American midfielder Malik Tillman, who is being pursued by Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen. However, Hamer is not the only target for the Eindhoven club, and is only one potential option.

Writers’ View

Gustavo Hamer has been tipped to leave Sheffield United multiple times this window so it is no surprise a new side has emerged that are interested in him. PSV will have Champions League football to offer the 28-year-old, which teams like Leeds and Everton will not be able to offer. Of course, it is dependent on other transfer moves and whether Peter Bozs fancies Hamer to be the successor to Malik Tillman. With the right fee, it will be easy to pry the Dutchman away. United have already lined up potential alternatives should Hamer leave, with The Blades believed to be in a three-way battle to sign Millenic Alli from Luton Town.
