Crawley Town Announce Premier League Loan

Crawley Town have announced the capture of Liverpool goalkeeper Harvey Davies on a season-long loan.

The Red Devils were relegated from League One last season by the barest of margins, losing out to Burton Albion by just one point. However, they were handed a boost later in the season as Scott Lindsey made his return just months removed from his departure at Broadfield to Milton Keynes Dons.

Davies Returns To League Two

Town announced that they had signed Davies on a season-long loan, marking the second loan for the 21-year-old to the fourth division. He had previously played for Crewe Alexandra two seasons ago, playing 32 times for The Railwaymen as they finished in sixth place, in a campaign which saw Crawley beat Crewe in the playoff final.

Davies’ position at parent club Liverpool has not changed despite an overhaul in the goalkeeping department after the sale of Caoimhin Kelleher to Brentford and a loan move for Vitazev Jaros to Dutch giants Ajax, with two new goalkeepers arriving at Anfield in Giorgi Mamardashvili and Armin Pecsi. Davies made seven squads for the first team this season, but did not appear on the pitch once and is still waiting for his senior debut at the reigning Premier League champions.

Speaking about his arrival in Sussex, the 21-year-old said:

“I am really happy to be here. I had some great conversations with people at the club and they made me fell wanted and welcomed me in. I had a really good chat with the manager who presented really well to me and said that he wanted me, so it made it the decision very easy.”

With Toby Steward heading back to Portsmouth after a promising loan spell towards the end of the season, Crawley Town have re-entered the loan market with the signing of Harvey Davies. He is somewhat experienced in the division with his time at Crewe Alexandra, but still untested in his career after limited senior opportunities at Liverpool. He will be competing with Joe Wollacott and Ryan Sandford to make the starting eleven, so it will be interesting to see who Scott Lindsey picks to be his first choice.
