Milton Keynes Dons Make Move For League One Midfielder

Milton Keynes Dons‘ revolution under Paul Warne looks to continue as they have made an approach to a leading League One midfielder.

The former Derby County boss has taken the reins in Buckinghamshire during the last stretch of the season from the departing Scott Lindsey and has begun rebuilding his squad ahead of a second season in the fourth tier. He has already reunited with a former Rams player in Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, who was the first acquisition for the club this summer.

Collar Approach Made

According to a report from Football League World, Milton Keynes have made an approach to Stockport County‘s leading midfielder Will Collar, who is set to depart Edgeley Park this summer after five seasons at the club. He featured in 42 of the Hatters’ 46 League One games this season, scoring eight times and assisting twice alongside Owen Moxon and Oliver Norwood in the middle of the pitch.

After joining from Hamilton Academical in 2021, Collar became an integral part of Dave Challinor’s side as they rose through the divisions, and leaves with the National League and League Two titles to his name on top of a third place finish in League One, where they fell short to Leyton Orient in the playoff semi final. He made 172 total appearances, scoring 38 times.

The Dons have confirmed three incomings so far in the form of Mendez-Laing, Bolton Wanderers‘ Gethin Jones and Crawley Town striker Rushian Hepburn-Murphy, and have been linked with outgoing Notts County talisman David McGoldrick, according to The Real EFL. However, the biggest transfer news seems to be around Aaron Collins, with reports suggesting they are offering a fee close to £1 million for the striker.

Writers’ View

This would be a brilliant piece of business for Milton Keynes Dons to make. Will Collar proved himself to be a reliable player at the League One level so should he step back down into League Two it would feel to be a bit of a coup. Paul Warne is seemingly building a super team for the level with Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and reported links to David McGoldrick in addition to this latest Will Collar news. Should both of these deals go through and with Paul Warne at the helm, they would certainly be the team to beat going into next season.
