Multiple Clubs Interested In Standout Crawley Town Midfielder

Charlton Athletic, Plymouth Argyle, Bolton Wanderers and Peterborough United are interested in signing midfielder Bradley Ibrahim, who spent this season on loan at Crawley Town, as per Football League World.

Ibrahim’s Career To Date

The combative midfielder came through the Arsenal youth academy, playing regularly for the Gunners’ under-18 and under-23 sides.

During his youth career, he captained the Arsenal under-18 side that reached the 2022/23 FA Youth Cup final and he made two appearances for England under-18’s.

The youngster left Arsenal to join Hertha Berlin in February 2024, spending the second half of the 2023/24 season playing for the club’s second team in the German fourth tier.

He moved to Crawley Town on loan in August and has been a regular for the Red Devils upon their return to League One.

The combative midfielder made league 24 starts this season scoring two goals, one of which was voted as the EFL’s Goal of the Month for February and the club’s Goal of the Season.

The 20-year-old won more tackles per 90 than 93.2% of League One midfielders and he made more recoveries per 90 than 85.8% of his counterparts, showing his off-the-ball ability. But, the defensive midfielder is also good on the ball as he made more successful passes per 90 than 79.6% of his peers.

Where May He Fit In At The Interested Clubs?

Peterborough have an obvious gap in their squad after Hector Kyprianou officially departed the club to join Watford. The 23-year-old had been an ever-present for Darren Ferguson’s men, playing 140 times over the last three seasons, but Ibrahim could offer the Posh some much-needed defensive solidity in midfield.

Bolton are losing Jay Matete in the summer as he will return to Sunderland after his loan spell ends. This leaves another potential position in midfield that Ibrahim can fill. The 22-year-old can also play as a centre-back, which may prove useful if Steven Schumacher continues using a back three.

Plymouth have just been relegated from the Championship and they will be looking to add new players in all positions to try and rejuvenate the squad as they seek to instantly bounce back to the second tier.

As for Charlton Athletic, the reason for their interest is slightly harder to discern. The Addicks do not yet know what league they will be playing in next season and they have one the best midfielders in the third tier in their squad in the form of Connor Coventry.

Writer’s View

Ibrahim has been impressive in a Crawley Town side that got relegated this season and definitely deserves to stay in the third tier next year, though it remains unclear whether any potential move from Hertha BSC will be a permanent transfer or another loan move.

If Charlton were to get promoted, the step up to the Championship may be too large for the 20-year-old to make at this point in his career and he will be facing intense competition at both Plymouth and Bolton.

The Weston Homes Stadium may be the best place for the midfielder. Kyprianou’s departure leaves an obvious void that needs to be filled and the Posh have a track record of giving opportunities to young players.
