Stoke City Set to Make Move for Relegated Star: European Side Also Interested

Stoke City are closing in on a summer transfer bid for Luton Town midfielder Lamine Fanne Dabo, according to reports in Sweden.

The 21-year-old only joined Luton in January after an agreement with Swedish club AIK Fotboll was reached the previous August. Since then, he has made 12 appearances for the Hatters in a Championship campaign that ultimately ended in relegation.

With Luton now preparing for life in League One, it appears Fanne Dabo is set for a swift exit, and Stoke City are one of two clubs who have reportedly made contact over a potential move. Belgian outfit Club Brugge are also believed to be keen, with both sides said to be preparing offers to test Luton’s resolve.

According to Fotboll Direkt, the duo are closest to formalising bids, though no figures have yet been disclosed. The same report relays recent claims from Sportbladet that clubs in Spain and Italy are also monitoring the situation, while the player is said to be open to a move away.

The midfielder is under contract at Kenilworth Road until 2029, which puts Luton in a strong negotiating position. However, Transfermarkt currently lists his market value at €4m, which may serve as a reference point during talks.

European Interest Growing

Club Brugge, known for developing young talent and competing regularly in European competitions, represent serious competition for Stoke, who will be aiming to rebuild under Steven Schumacher after a mid-table finish in the Championship.

Interest from La Liga sides has yet to materialise into official offers, but Fotboll Direkt confirms that scouts have been tracking Fanne Dabo’s progress. With the transfer window opening in June, Stoke and Brugge may look to act quickly to secure the player before wider competition intensifies.

Despite Luton’s difficult campaign, Fanne Dabo’s performances have caught attention, and he remains highly regarded in Sweden after his development at AIK. His style, combining ball-carrying ability with tenacity in midfield, could suit both the physicality of the Championship and the technical requirements of top-tier Belgian or Spanish football.

Writer’s View

Stoke City’s proactive move for Lamine Fanne Dabo suggests they are wasting no time in preparing for next season. With the player seemingly eager to move on, and Luton likely needing to trim their squad following relegation, the deal makes sense for all parties.

That said, interest from Club Brugge and clubs in southern Europe may complicate matters. If Stoke are serious about the 21-year-old, they’ll need to act decisively—and likely be competitive on both fee and contract terms. For a player under long-term contract, Luton won’t be pressured into a cheap sale. But with the Potters keen to add energy and youth to their squad, Fanne Dabo could be a smart fit at the bet365 Stadium.
