Notts County Agree Transfer For League One Midfielder

Ollie Norburn looks set to join Notts County after The Magpies agreed a deal with Blackpool for the 32-year-old.

The Grenadian international was phased out of Steve Bruce’s plans at Bloomfield Road in January, and was sent out on loan to Wigan Athletic, where he played 14 times before an early end to his season due to an Achilles injury. He played 22 times overall in the third tier last season, where he failed to record any direct goal involvement from his midfield role.

County Make Move

According to reports in Football League World, the Meadow Lane side have agreed a deal with Blackpool to sign Norburn on a free transfer, after it was confirmed he would be leaving the Seasiders upon the expiry of his contract. He joined the club from Peterborough United on a free transfer in 2023, and whilst having a solid debut season, he underwhelmed last season, leading to his loan to Wigan.

County are still on the lookout for a new manager after the sacking of Stuart Maynard following their playoff semi-final defeat to AFC Wimbledon. Nevertheless, it has not stopped the club from making transfer moves, with Huddersfield Town‘s Tom Iorpenda heading to the club on loan for the upcoming season.

However, the club will still need to find new options in other positions, especially after the blow of losing David McGoldrick after he rejected a contract offer. The Real EFL revealed that it is Milton Keynes Dons that are close to agreeing a deal to sign Didzy, which would reunite him with former Derby County boss Paul Warne.

Writers’ View

Whilst Ollie Norburn had a tough 2024/25 season, this feels like a good move for Notts County to make. He will be an experienced and accomplished footballer in the dressing room at a time where the club have lost a major leadership figure in David McGoldrick. Norburn will also be able to fill the gap left by George Abbot as he heads back to Tottenham Hotspur. A free transfer move for someone of his level is a good move for them even if he isn’t a long-term option.
