Notts County are yet to make an approach for Lincoln City assistant head coach Tom Shaw following reports that the Magpies are interested in acquiring his services.
A disappointing end to the campaign saw the Nottingham-based side part company with previous head coach Stuart Maynard. The 44-year-old missed out on automatic promotion in League Two, eventually securing a sixth-placed finish.
This saw County pitted against AFC Wimbledon in the play-off semi finals, but they lost both legs 1-0. They then had to watch from afar as their adversaries triumphed at Wembley Stadium to move up to League One.
Less than a week later, it was confirmed that Maynard would leave the club after 16 months in charge.
No Approach As Of Yet
Earlier this week, it was claimed that Lincoln City assistant head coach Tom Shaw had been discussed internally as a potential candidate at Meadow Lane. The 38-year-old is highly rated at the LNER Stadium and led the club on an interim basis in 2023 following the departure of Mark Kennedy.
He remained at Sincil Bank upon Michael Skubala’s appointment shortly after and has acted as the former Leeds United coach’s understudy ever since. The Imps have caught the eye in League One over the past couple of seasons. They missed out on a place in the play-offs on the final day of the campaign a year ago before following that with an 11th-placed finish.
This led to speculation that Shaw was being lined up for his first managerial position in the EFL with Notts County. However, in conversations with Lincoln, The Real EFL learned that there has been no approach nor is the former Gainsborough Trinity boss aware of any interest.
Writer’s View
It wouldn’t be a surprise to see Tom Shaw start to garner interest from League Two over the next year or two but you have to believe that if Notts County were considering the 38-year-old, there would have been at least some initial conversations with either him or the club. That’s not the case here. It’s possible that this was leaked by someone to gauge public reaction. Wherever it came from, there appears to be nothing in this for now.
