Middlesbrough are facing a battle against other Championship sides as they have shown interest in Millenic Alli
The 25-year-old has gone on a meteoric rise over the past eighteen months, earning a move first to Exeter City from National League side FC Halifax Town, only for Luton Town to sign him from The Grecians twelve months later. He appeared sixteen times in the Championship as The Hatters battled – and lost – against relegation and scored four goals.
Three Sides Target Alli
According to Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke, Middlesbrough are set to battle both Sheffield United and Leicester City for Alli’s services just six months after Luton spent £1.5 million on the versatile forward.
Boro have lost key players due to loan agreements such as Ben Doak, who is unlikely to return to the Riverside as Premier League clubs like Everton, Bournemouth and Crystal Palace all interested in signing the Scotland international permanently, according to the Daily Mail. Samuel Illing-Junior has also returned to Aston Villa and looks set to compete for a place in the first team for Unai Emery’s side next season.
Leicester City could be in the market for a new winger with reports of Stephy Mavididi’s future up in the air. Football Insider reported earlier this month that European sides like Villarreal and Atalanta, managed by former Southampton boss Ivan Juric, are preparing offers for the former Charlton Athletic loanee.
Sheffield United, now under the stewardship of Ruben Selles, could also be in the same position as The Foxes with interest from Leeds United continuing to surround Gus Hamer. The Blades have made moves for youthful wingers, signing Nigerian winger Ehije Ukaki from Botev Plovdiv on a three-year deal.

Millenic Alli did not get many chances with Luton Town in the final stretch of last season, only being handed six starts and just over 750 minutes total. Nevertheless, the Irishman thrived in those circumstances, scoring four times and proving he can handle the Championship level. All three interested parties currently have some demand for a new winger, but Middlesbrough seems like the best option for him to go to. Rob Edwards’ side are looking for a new winger and a new striker and with Alli’s versatility, he could play in either spot.
