Exeter City Seal Agreement With 19-Year-Old Prospect

Exeter City have confirmed that promising midfielder Pedro Borges has signed a new contract that will keep him at St James Park until at least the summer of 2027.

The Portuguese youngster joined the Grecians’ academy from Yeovil Town in 2022 and has since followed the traditional Exeter development pathway through loan spells and first-team exposure. Borges made his senior debut for the club in August 2022 during an EFL Trophy match against Newport County and his League One debut came eight months later in a fixture against Bolton Wanderers.

Borges has since taken in a series of loan spells to accelerate his development, turning out for Plymouth Parkway, Tiverton Town, Dorchester Town, Gosport Borough, and most recently Weston-super-Mare. During the second half of the 2024/25 campaign, he made 11 appearances for Weston, scoring twice in National League South.

Long term faith

His latest loan followed a brief return to Yeovil Town, where he played eight times in the National League before being recalled in January. Despite missing the end of the season due to injury, Exeter have shown their faith in the teenager’s long-term potential.

Speaking after signing his new contract, Borges expressed his gratitude and determination:

“It feels so good, and it’s very exciting. I have worked so hard for it. I have had my highs and lows, and I wanted to thank God, my family and of course the club. I am injured at the moment but I feel very good and can’t wait to get back on the pitch. My goal is to get back out there as soon as possible.”

Manager Gary Caldwell also offered strong backing for the youngster.

“Pedro has had lots of ups and downs in his time at Exeter but we really believe in him as a player. He is currently injured so couldn’t play any part for the first team at the end of the season but there was no doubt in keeping Pedro at the club next season. He is a player with so many good attributes and we look forward to him returning from injury and seeing those attributes on a regular basis on the pitch next season.”

Writer’s View

Exeter City’s renewed deal for Pedro Borges is another example of their deep-rooted commitment to nurturing talent through the academy system. Borges may not yet be a regular starter, but his steady progress, resilience through injuries, and adaptability during loan spells mark him out as a player with serious upside.

Securing him for two more seasons ensures continuity and gives him the platform to finally break into Gary Caldwell’s plans when fully fit. With Exeter’s track record in developing midfielders, Borges’ next step could be his most significant yet.
