Swindon Town have confirmed the signing of former Leeds United midfielder Joe Snowdon on a one-year deal.
The 20-year-old joins the Robins after leaving Elland Road and will link up with Ian Holloway’s side, pending EFL approval.
Ex-Leeds Man Joins Holloway’s Swindon Rebuild
Snowdon arrives at the County Ground following four years at Leeds United, where he impressed as a technically gifted and versatile midfielder in their Under-21 squad. Originally a Manchester City academy product, he switched to Leeds in 2020 and has developed into a creative force in midfield.
Last season, he featured 12 times in Premier League 2, scoring four goals and supplying multiple assists. He also featured in cup competitions, including a National League Cup tie against FC Halifax Town in which he found the net. His contributions helped Leeds’ U21s lift the trophy, marking a milestone in his development as he transitions into senior football.
Speaking after signing his deal, Snowdon was clearly excited to get started at his new club:
“I’m buzzing to be here at Swindon as it’s a club full of history and I’m just really looking forward to getting started and getting going. I’m a versatile player, but I like to get on the ball, get goals, and get assists. I’ve managed to get my first taste and exposure to men’s football last season in the National League Cup and also the EFL Trophy.
“I spoke to Ian, he was incredible to speak to, so refreshing, and he didn’t seem in a rush when he spoke to me. He gave me so much of his time, and I really can’t wait to start working with him.”
The move sees Snowdon reunited—briefly in spirit—with former Leeds teammate Sean McGurk, who joined Swindon 18 months ago. McGurk is expected to depart this summer but took to social media to support the move, writing: “Top player, smash it brother.”
Holloway’s rebuild continues at pace following a mid-table finish in 2024/25. The signing of Snowdon reflects the club’s shift towards hungry young players with top-tier academy pedigrees, as they look to climb back into promotion contention.
Writer’s View
This is another smart, low-risk move by Ian Holloway as he shapes his squad with youth and energy. Joe Snowdon is technically excellent and comes from two of the best academies in the country.
While he’s yet to prove himself in a senior league setting, his stats from Premier League 2 and cup competitions suggest he’s ready for that step up. If he settles quickly, he could become a creative hub for Swindon and give them a cutting edge in midfield that was often missing last season.
