Swindon Town have strengthened their defence with the signing of highly-rated youngster Filozofe Mabete from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The 20-year-old has penned a two-year deal at the County Ground, with the move still subject to EFL approval.
Holloway Lands Promising Wolves Prospect
Born in London, Mabete joins the League Two side after progressing through the ranks at Wolves, where he impressed in their Under-21 setup. Last season, he featured 15 times across the Premier League 2, Premier League Cup, and EFL Trophy, producing 20 interceptions and helping his side to a clean sheet in the latter competition.
Despite never making a senior appearance at Molineux, the defender arrives at Swindon with a strong pedigree. He has represented both England and the Democratic Republic of Congo at youth level, underlining his potential and versatility.
Mabete is the latest addition to Ian Holloway’s rebuild, which has seen the club aim for a more balanced and youthful squad following a challenging 2024/25 campaign. The deal is a clear signal of intent as Swindon look to push up the table and compete more robustly in the upcoming season.
The player himself spoke with real enthusiasm about the opportunity. In his first interview with the club, Mabete said:
“Literally, I am so happy to be here, from the first phone call I had with the club and the opportunity to join a club like Swindon, I was just so excited.
“This is a new chapter for me and my family, every single member of my family joined me in this process today in signing for Swindon, they are all so happy for me. When I spoke to Ian Holloway, he made my decision so easy, I knew from that first conversation, Swindon was my next home.”
With Holloway clearly playing a pivotal role in attracting the talented youngster, Town fans will be eager to see what Mabete can bring to a defence that conceded 71 goals last term.
Writer’s View
This is exactly the sort of transfer Swindon Town needed—young, hungry, and with something to prove. Filozofe Mabete’s grounding at a Premier League club, coupled with dual international experience at youth level, gives him a solid platform to adapt quickly to senior football.
His ability to read the game, highlighted by his interception stats at Wolves, should add some much-needed resilience at the back. If Ian Holloway continues to blend youth with experience as effectively, the Robins may surprise a few in League Two next season.
