Huddersfield Town have identified a possible managerial target – but face competition from two of this season’s Championship clubs for his services.
The Terriers are looking for a replacement for Michael Duff, who was given the boot by owner Kevin Nagle as their failure to qualify for the League One playoffs neared certainty. Jon Worthington led the club for the remainder of the campaign, but lost eight of his 10 matches in charge.
Top-Flight Boss Admired By Huddersfield
According to reports from Alan Nixon on his Patreon and later corroborated by other outlets, Stephen Robinson is a target for Huddersfield Town, but face competition from both Queens Park Rangers and Cardiff City.
Robinson, who has EFL experience with Oldham Athletic and Morecambe, has been one of the Scottish Premiership’s most impressive managers in recent seasons, leading St. Mirren to three top half finishes and their first taste of European football for the first time in 40 years.
Cardiff’s search for a manager came at a similar time as Duff’s sacking at Town, with Omer Riza being replaced and former Arsenal captain and Bluebirds player Aaron Ramsey attempting – and ultimately falling short – of Championship survival.
QPR meanwhile, were rocked as Marti Cifuentes was placed on gardening leave prior to the final game of the season, after the Spaniard was heavily linked with the vacant West Bromwich Albion job. However, a move to the Baggies never materialised.

Huddersfield fell drastically short of their pre-season ambitions and Michael Duff was promptly removed as their chances of recovering to a play-off finish dwindled. With several faces heading out of the door in West Yorkshire this off-season, Town are looking to find a manager very quickly to sort their squad out ahead of pre-season and seem to be in a battle for Stephen Robinson. With St. Mirren likely missing out on a second season in European qualifiers, it may be the time for the Northern Irishman to depart the club, but whether Huddersfield is a more appealing prospect than their competitors in Cardiff and QPR is another question.
