Promoted Duo Target Swansea City Star

Swansea City‘s out-of-contract defender Harry Darling has become the target of two promoted clubs.

The former Milton Keynes Dons man has been a standout alongside Ben Cabango in South Wales despite their mid-season struggles, but finished the campaign well under Alan Sheehan. He only missed seven Championship games this season, and racked up eight goals and assists, a new record whilst at The Jacks.

Blues And Dragons Ready To Pounce

Darling’s contract has been a source of conversation across the campaign, with both him and Cabango’s deals set to expire heading into the start of the season. Whilst they were able to reach an agreement with Cabango back in December with a four-year deal, Darling looks set to walk should he not accept the newest terms handed to him by the club.

According to Alan Nixon on his Patreon page, should they fail to agree terms, then both of League One’s automatically promoted sides in Birmingham City and Wrexham are ready to swoop in on the free agent. The Blues are believed to be tabling an attractive offer to the 25-year-old, whilst it is believed that the Hollywood-owned Red Dragons would match that fee to sway him to head to North Wales.

Centre-back is a key area of interest for Birmingham, with Ben Davies’ future still uncertain. He looks set to head back to parent club Rangers, but it is believed that they would like to re-sign him on a permanent basis.

Writer’s View

Swansea City want to keep Harry Darling at the club and with the positive momentum the side have had in the final stretch of the season, losing a key figure like Harry Darling would be a blow. Should he depart, then he could arrive at either Birmingham and Wrexham, both sides with lofty ambitions. With Birmingham looking at Ben Davies returning, then Wrexham will fancy their chances at beating their promotion rivals to the punch and securing one of the Championship’s better defenders early in the window.
