Blackburn Rovers Reveal Starlet Contract Decision

Blackburn Rovers have secured promising talent Brandon Powell with a new contract.

The 19-year-old is yet to feature for the Ewood Park club but has made his breakthrough in senior football with loan spells to Chorley and National League side Altrincham. The Greater Manchester side missed out on the playoffs on the final day after a draw with Tamworth.

Rovers Invest In Future

The deal was revealed by the club on their official website, with Powell signing a two-year deal with an additional 12 month optional extension. He has been an occasional part of Blackburn’s Premier League 2 campaign, where they finished 21st.

Upon signing the deal, the left-back said:

“I think from the start of the season to now I’ve improved massively. I feel like I’ve come out of my shell and shown the coaching staff what I can do. There’s obviously a lot more still to come, but I’m pleased with how the season’s gone.

“I just want to come back for pre-season really sharp and fit, show what I can do and what I can offer to the manager, and hopefully I can impress enough to get a spot in the squad again, or alternatively a good loan in League football would be a great option for me as well.

“I’ve been here for seven or eight years now and as a kid it seems so far away, but it’s gone so quick and I’m in the position now where I can try to push on to that and to make my debut for this club would be brilliant and a great opportunity that I can’t wait for.”

Writer’s View

It is always crucial for clubs to secure their future talents and this is no exception. Brandon Powell is still early in his career at Blackburn Rovers and whilst he may not have had plenty of senior experience, he will have gained valuable insight from playing at the non-league level. With Harry Pickering suffering from injuries this season, Valerien Ismael will need any potential replacements to be ready for action and it would be likely that the 19-year-old heads out somewhere to pick up more game time.
