Championship outfit Leeds United are one of many clubs in England and in Europe chasing Liverpool youngster Bobby Clark, according to HITC.
Leeds face Championship opposition in the form of Norwich City, Sheffield United, Coventry City, Derby County, Preston North End, Blackburn Rovers, Middlesbrough, Millwall and Queens Park Rangers in the race for the 19-year-old. All nine Championship sides are believed to have enquired about Clark on a loan basis, according to the Chronicle Live. The Whites also face international interest with RB Salzburg, Rangers and Celtic also reportedly holding an interest in the teenager.
The Austrian Bundesliga side saw a £6 million bid rejected earlier in August, with Liverpool not willing to sell Clark for less than £12 million, according to The Athletic. Also as was reported by Chronicle Live, RB Salzburg have since placed a third bid for the midfielder, with new manager Arne Slot said to be reluctant to sell.
Furthermore, the article has also claimed that Clark was offered back to Newcastle United, the club he joined the Merseyside outfit from for a fee of £1.5 million in August 2021. However, the Magpies turned down the deal, in favour of targeting other positions such as centre-back and left-wing as they prepare for Saturday’s match against newly promoted Southampton.
The Surrey-born midfielder has made 14 first-team appearances for the Reds, registering one goal and two assists in the process. Despite the limited chances in the first team under Jurgen Klopp, Clark has made his debut in both the Premier League and in Europe.
The Yorkshire-based outfit have seen mass turnover in terms of their squad once again, with a total of 18 players both temporarily and permanently moving away from Elland Road to pastures new. This includes the likes of Crysencio Summerville, Glen Kamara and Archie Gray, three players who were so crucial in Leeds’ campaign last season. Only four new players have come in through the door, including Joe Rodon, Joe Rothwell, Jayden Bogle and Alex Cairns who have all joined Leeds United in recent weeks.
Writer’s View
With the Championship side’s lack of current midfielders, it makes sense for Leeds United to be going in for such a talented young midfielder as they look to reach the Premier League once again. If the Whites can successfully overcome international competition to secure Clark, it will undoubtedly demonstrate a strong commitment to their ambitions as a club.
The teenager’s versatility, as well as his current experience with playing in both the Premier League and Europe, would undoubtedly give Leeds some security in the middle of the park. From Clark’s perspective, if he feels he has a future at Liverpool, a loan move could prove to be in the best interest of everyone involved. Leeds can offer first-team competitive, regular football in the Championship, and if Clark can live up to his potential, he should have no problem fitting in, in a team that will be undoubtedly pushing for promotion.
