Norwich City are in talks with Leeds United over a possible deal for Jonathan Rowe but the future of centre-forward Adam Idah is still up in the air heading into the final few weeks of the transfer window.
It was reported by The Telegraph on Monday that Leeds had submitted an offer of £7 million for Rowe following his superb displays at Carrow Road last season as he scored 13 goals and recorded three assists in 38 appearances. However, the publication stated that the Canaries had turned down the Yorkshire club’s offer as it was way below their valuation of the 21-year-old, but the two Championship sides have remained locked in negotiations.
This news comes in light of Gabriel Sara’s departure to Galatasaray. It was reported back in July that the Brazilian midfielder has garnered interest from a number of clubs in England and in Europe, including Leeds, Leicester City and Crystal Palace but ultimately chose to make the switch to the Turkish champions for an initial £15.3 million.
Nevertheless, another player who has a rather uncertain future in Norfolk is Adam Idah. The Republic of Ireland international spent the second half of the previous campaign out on loan at Celtic as the Glasgow giants lifted the Scottish Premiership and the Scottish Cup. Idah scored a last-minute winner in the latter competition during a 1-0 victory over their bitter rivals Rangers at Hampden Park to bring the trophy to Parkhead.
It was rumoured earlier in the transfer window that Celtic had bid between £4-5 million for the 25-year-old but this offer was rejected as new Canaries boss Johannes Hoff Thorup was keen to look at the Irishman in pre-season. It has since been reported that Norwich City have slapped an £8 million price tag on the striker and are not in a rush to sell him as the new season commences this weekend for the club with a trip to newly-promoted Oxford United.
Speaking about the transfer saga on Go Radio, via HITC, Celtic legend John Hartson believes that Norwich are “taking the mick” regarding their asking price for Idah and has admitted that he feels a little aggrieved by it.
“I’m a little bit aggrieved with Norwich because he wasn’t in the team. He was on the bench. Celtic gave him a platform to make a name for himself, gave him game time which he wasn’t getting a lot of at Norwich.
“Now, he’s done really well. You half expect [Norwich’s stance] because clubs get as greedy as they can and try and get as much out the players as they can.
“But to be asking reportedly £6.5, seven, eight million… He’s only been playing regularly for six months! I know it’s business but I’m a little bit aggrieved by that.
“I think they’re taking the mick a bit.”

Hartson is right to an extent. £8 million is a ridiculously high price to ask considering Idah has primarily been a backup centre-forward during his time at Carrow Road since making his debut for Norwich City back in 2019.
However, Idah penned a new long-term deal with the Canaries last year which will keep him at the club until 2028 at the latest, hence why Norwich have been asking for such an extortionate fee. Perhaps they will reduce their price tag the closer it gets to the end of the transfer window.
