Leeds United To Make Approach For Premier League Star After £6m Bid Rejected

Leeds United are keen to bolster their midfield department this summer and are eyeing a move for a youngster in the Premier League, according to the latest reports.

The new EFL Championship season commences in less than a week as the Whites prepare to take on newly promoted side Portsmouth on the opening day of the campaign. It looks like head coach Daniel Farke is keen to do some business before Pompey make the trip to Elland Road in merely six days.

Football Insider have revealed that Leeds are eyeing a move for 19-year-old Bobby Clark who could be on his way out of Liverpool this summer, albeit on a temporary basis. Austrian side RB Salzburg, now spearheaded by former Reds coach Pepijn Lijnders, recently made a £6 million bid for the teenager but this was swiftly rejected by the Merseyside outfit.

Furthermore, the report claims that Liverpool are not willing to sell Clark permanently and would prefer for a club to take him on loan. In addition to Leeds United, promotion rivals Sheffield United and Norwich City are said to be preparing formal offers for the young midfielder.

Farke has already added to his squad in the midfield area this summer with the signing of Joe Rothwell on loan from Bournemouth in the top-flight, who will likely take Glen Kamara’s place in the starting lineup alongside Ethan Ampadu following the Finland international’s £8.4 million move to Rennes.

Nevertheless, the German coach is not set to stop with the arrival of Rothwell and is now keen to bring Clark on board, who has made 14 first-team appearances in all competitions for the English giants since making his debut two seasons ago in a 9-0 win over Rothwell’s parent club.

Clark still has four years remaining on his contract at Anfield, having penned a long-term deal with the club as recently as December. He is seen as a rising talent at the Premier League side so it’s highly unlikely that Liverpool are willing to sell him before the transfer market slams shut, particularly since they rejected a £6 million bid from one of his old coaches.

However, this may suit Leeds United. Despite receiving huge fees from the sales of Archie Gray and Crysencio Summerville, the West Yorkshire outfit are still keen to avoid breaching the Championship’s financial regulations. Perhaps a loan move for the 2024/25 season may be best for all parties and Clark will likely receive a lot of minutes given Farke’s lack of depth in the middle of the park.
