Leeds United Face Birmingham Competition For Attacker With 12 Goal Contributions

Leeds United are looking for a replacement for Crysencio Summerville this summer and are keen to dip back into the Dutch market, according to reports.

Summerville is close to signing a long-term contract with Premier League side West Ham United after he completed his medical on Friday. The Whites are set to receive a £25 million fee with add-ons for the Dutchman, with the campaign set to kick off in just one week.

As a result of Summerville’s departure, Daniel Farke will need to sign a replacement before the window closes at the end of the month. One name that has popped up on the club’s transfer list is Fenerbahce winger Ryan Kent, who previously had stints in the Championship on loan at Barnsley and Bristol City.

Reports in Turkey, via Football FanCast, claimed that the West Yorkshire outfit submitted a £2.5 million bid to the Turkish giants in an attempt to bring the 27-year-old to Elland Road after what has been quite a lacklustre spell for him at the Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium as he featured just eight times in the league last season following his move from Rangers a year ago.

Leeds had previously registered interest in Kent back in November ahead of the January window, while it was also believed that the club were eyeing a move for the attacker back when Marcelo Bielsa was in charge too.

Nevertheless, Kent is not the only name on the recruitment department’s transfer list. According to Dutch outlet VI, via GIVE ME SPORT, Leeds United are hoping to replace Summerville by signing yet another Dutch attacker. This time, it’s NEC Nijmegen wide man Sontje Hansen.

Hansen, who is the same age as his compatriot Summerville, had an excellent season in the Eredivisie last term in which he bagged six goals and recorded six assists in 33 appearances as NEC finished merely three points below the European places.

However, the report also claims that the Championship title favourites face competition for Hansen’s signature from League One’s big spenders Birmingham City who have also been keeping tabs on his situation in The Netherlands.

Writer’s View

Hansen would be a far better signing for Leeds United than Kent. The latter is great for providing assists, like Summerville, but Hansen has also proven that he is an excellent goalscorer in the top-flight of Dutch football.

Summerville can do both and replacing him with Hansen, who can also do both, is perhaps the best course of action for the Whites right now. Furthermore, he is five years younger than Kent which means the club can earn a nice profit on him in the future should he follow the same trajectory as the man he is potentially replacing.
