“Sacked In The Morning” Are These The Next League One/Two Managers To Get The Boot?

Karl Robinson (Oxford United)

The first name we take a look at on the list is Karl Robinson, in charge of Oxford United in League One. The club are familiar with the third tier of football earning promotion there in 2016, after finishing second in League Two in the 15/16 season.

During their time in the third tier, they have finished in the bottom half just twice, they have even featured in the playoffs twice during this time. In 2020, they missed out on the Championship, losing 2-1 to Gareth Ainsworth’s Wycombe Wanderers in the final played at Wembley. Robinson was in charge of the U’s back then, he took over at Oxford United in 2018, replacing Josep Clotet who was dismissed by the club after an embarrassing loss to League One’s bottom side Bury.

This season has been a different story to the past seasons that Oxford have enjoyed, falling into the bottom half this year and in danger of being dragged into the ongoing relegation battle. It is a run of form that many in the club would not have seen coming, given that there was a point this season they were on a run of eight games without defeat.

Things have changed since the turn of the new year however, Robinson’s side has only recorded two victories in this calendar year and even fell to defeat at second from bottom Cambridge United who many fans feel are one of the top picks to go down this year.

The Oxford Mail issued an update on Monday, that as of that point in time, they understood Robinson was to remain in charge of the club for the time being. However, this is not something that means he is safe from the sack, it just means there are still questions to be asked of his performances in charge of the club and their form in the first half of the season must be something they are taking into account for them to keep their faith in him.
