Chesterfield 7-1 Shrewsbury
Sadly for the Spireites, few of them will be reading this as they’re no longer a part of the Football League. Trips to the likes of Maidenhead must have seemed a million miles away as three goals in the last ten minutes turned this from a simple big win into an extraordinary result.
Jay O’Shea, Lee Novak and Rai Simmons had all scored to give them a 4-1 lead against the Shrews, but when Junior Brown was dismissed on eighty minutes the visitors collapsed. Novak bagged two and completed his hat trick with Simmons also adding another to complete the rout.
Neither side were relegated, although Shrewsbury finished 20th and Chesterfield 18th. A year later, Chesterfield suffered the first of back to back relegations, whilst Shrewsbury were on course for a double Wembley appearance in 2017/18.
