Swansea City could move on promising forward Bobby Wales just 6 months after recruiting the Scottish youth international.
Alan Sheehan signed the 20-year-old from Kilmarnock early in the summer window after he made his breakthrough in the SPFL last campaign, and looked to play a reserve role for the Jacks as part of their Championship plans. However, his situation changed in the final hours of the window when Adam Idah was signed from Celtic to much fanfare.
Limited Opportunities Give League One Sides Hope
With Idah joining Zan Vipotnik and Liam Cullen in the forward department on Swansea Bay, it has left Wales struggling for game time under Alan Sheehan’s plans. So far, he is yet to appear from the start and has made 2 substitute appearances against Crawley Town and Sheffield United, scoring in the former.
However, the 20-year-old has not appeared in a single squad since September, which has led to speculation about his future. Transfer Journalist Graeme Bailey has now provided a clearer picture, revealling that teams in League One are exploring January moves for a striker.
Just 2 clubs were named in his report, with Barnsley and Lincoln City known to be interested in Wales, who played in 28 of Kilmarnock’s Scottish Premiership games last season. The Tykes have plenty of forward options, spearheaded by Davis Keillor-Dunn and supported by veteran forward David McGoldrick and a rotation option in Caylan Vickers.
Lincoln have 6 forward names in their squad currently, with only James Collins on more than 2 league goals so far this season. Michael Skubala’s side have had a reputation for developing talent in recent years, with Joe Taylor and Jovon Makama coming through the doors at Sincil Bank and moving on to play in the Championship.

Can Wales Capitalise On A Move?
With no game time likely for Bobby Wales unless injuries start piling up, a move down a division is likely to give him some regular action to prove himself in England. He was in a lot of demand heading into the summer, with West Bromwich Albion and Blackburn Rovers both interested in a move.
Whether Barnsley and Lincoln are the right options for a move remains to be seen, especially with both having proven strikers at this level and unlikely to rotate their squad to accommodate someone not really proven. A return to Scotland is also on the cards, which could see him thrive in a more familiar environment.
