Swansea City On Brink Of Confirming First Summer Signing

Swansea City are set to confirm their first signing of the Alan Sheehan era as they close in on a Scottish Premiership striker.

The Irishman was finally handed the full-time gig at The Jacks after a successful interim spell, with a three-year contract being officially revealed two days ago. Across 12 matches, the former Luton Town and Leeds United midfielder has recorded seven wins and two draws.

Wales Set For Wales

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, City have agreed a deal with Kilmarnock to sign their young striker Bobby Wales and is set to sign a four-year contract at the Championship club. The 19-year-old played 25 times in the Scottish Premiership this season, with three goals and two assists to his name.

Romano confirmed that the Scottish Under-21 international would undergo a medical this week and that his former club would be handed £300,000 in compensation as his contract expires this summer and he is under 24 years old.

Wales has been a figure of interest across the Championship with his contract ticking down and Football Insider reported in March that West Bromwich Albion and Blackburn Rovers were also monitoring the former Alloa Athletic forward.

Swansea’s season ends tomorrow when they welcome Oxford United to South Wales in a dead rubber for both sides.

Writer’s View

Bobby Wales is certainly an investment for the future for Swansea City. With a low compensation fee and having already agreed a pre-contract, according to reports in Scotland, The Jacks were well ahead of any other competition they might have had for the youth international. Whilst his baseline stats may not cause excitement for fans, it was his first full season in the Kilmarnock squad and has fared well from just 14 starts this season. Swansea will need to recruit more first-team calibre players across the summer, and it would not be surprising to see Wales head out on loan to gain vital experience as a regular starter somewhere.
