Portsmouth are targeting a loan move for Crystal Palace youngster Hindolo Mustapha as they look to bolster their attacking options ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
The 18-year-old attacking midfielder has emerged as a top priority for Pompey boss John Mousinho, who has personally scouted the teenager in Under-21 action for the Eagles. Mustapha, highly rated within the Palace academy, signed his first professional contract in January 2024 and has made a strong impression since stepping up to Premier League 2 level.
Fast rise through the ranks
Mustapha has enjoyed a breakout season in 2024/25, contributing nine goals and five assists in 23 appearances for Palace’s U21s. The teenager first made waves at U18 level, where he produced five goals and 12 assists in 32 matches before earning promotion to the club’s development squad.
His standout moment came recently when he scored a stunning left-footed volley to open the scoring in a 3-1 win over Brighton’s U21s, a performance that further highlighted his eye for goal and technical ability.
Mustapha’s form has not gone unnoticed. He was nominated for Premier League 2 Player of the Month in March and has also been on the radar of international selectors, having already made his senior debut for Sierra Leone. That first cap came in a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Chad, further underlining his growing reputation.
Pompey plan for the future
John Mousinho is believed to be a strong admirer of Mustapha’s versatility and vision in midfield. The Fratton Park manager made a recent trip to watch the youngster in person, underlining Portsmouth’s intent to secure a deal.
Although Mustapha has yet to feature for Palace’s senior team, he has played against senior EFL sides this season, recording goal contributions against Gillingham and Peterborough United in the EFL Trophy. He primarily operates as an attacking midfielder but has also been used in deeper central roles and on the flanks when needed.
Portsmouth are expected to face competition for Mustapha’s signature, but Mousinho’s early scouting and the promise of first-team football could prove crucial in luring the Palace prospect to League One.
