Bolton Wanderers Set For Lincoln City Transfer Swoop

Bolton Wanderers have reportedly hijacked arch-rivals Wigan Athletic‘s deal for Ethan Erhahon as they look for a new midfielder.

The Trotters lost key man George Thomason earlier this week, with Wrexham securing a deal for the 24-year-old for a £1.2 million fee. Whilst other names, including Luca Connell of Barnsley, have been touted to join Steven Schumacher’s side, it seems a new option in Erhahon has emerged, swooping in from under Wigan’s feet.

Latics Deal Disrupted

According to a new report from Football League World, Bolton have made a quick move for Lincoln City‘s Erhahon, who has been linked with a move away from Sincil Bank this summer. Ben Jacobs reported earlier this week that both Swansea City and Ryan Lowe’s Athletic have tabled moves for the Scottish youth international, with Bolton and Oxford United making enquiries.

Erhahon has previously expressed his desire to leave the Imps this summer, and was left out of their latest preseason game against county rivals Grimsby Town as a result. In FLW’s latest report, it was revealed that whilst the 24-year-old had travelled to Greater Manchester for talks yesterday with Wigan, Bolton made a late move for the player, and has undergone a medical today to join the Toughsheet Community Stadium side.

He will join a midfield unit with fellow summer signings Thierry Gale from Rapid Wien and Hull City‘s Xavier Simons as Wanderers look to return to the playoffs after a tricky season which saw Ian Evatt removed from his post and eventually succeeded by Schumacher, who earned promotion to the Championship with Plymouth Argyle three seasons earlier.

Writers’ View

This is a big coup for Bolton Wanderers as they recruit a highly-rated midfielder in Ethan Erhahon. Also gaining a new reason to goad their biggest rivals in Wigan Athletic, the Trotters now have adequately replaced the outgoing George Thomason with a highly dependable option in the 24-year-old and have also beaten Championship clubs to his signature. Whilst not being as prolific as other League One sides in their transfer outlay this summer, such as Huddersfield Town and Luton Town, Steven Schumacher’s side will be in and around the top sides with their squad and manager, and will hope to end a seven-year absence from the Championship come May.
