Macauley Southam-Hales is a man in demand as three clubs, including Lincoln City, have made offers for the wing-back, according to Football League World.
The 29-year-old is a free agent this summer after leaving Stockport County after five years and two promotions with Dave Challinor’s side. He played just 17 times in League One this season with his last appearance for the Hatters coming in March against Charlton Athletic.
Imps In Race For Southam-Hales
According to a report from Football League World, Lincoln City are among three clubs that have tabled an offer for the right wing-back as Michael Skubala’s side look to add to their squad after an 11th-placed finish last season. The Imps have made just one addition to their side so far this summer, with defender Sonny Bradley arriving at Sincil Bank following the loss of Paudie O’Connor to League One rivals Reading.
Wigan Athletic have also been linked with the 29-year-old as they look to rebuild under Ryan Lowe, whilst the relegated Bristol Rovers are also in the race after they used centre-back Taylor Moore on the right flank for large stretches of the season. The Gas have made their own full-back signing by recruiting Jack Sparkes from Peterborough United on the other side of the pitch.
Southam-Hales made just three League One appearances for Fleetwood Town prior to joining Stockport when they were in the National League.
Writers’ View
Macauley Southam-Hales would be an interesting move to make for Lincoln City or any other side. He is a well-regarded figure off and on the pitch and a beloved figure for Stockport fans owing to his leadership and contributions to their promotions, particularly whilst in the National League. The big question is his fitness, with injury issues limiting him to just 20 appearances across all competitions, and he played 13 times during their first season back in the EFL. Whether he will be the starter for whoever he joins remains up in the air, but nevertheless, he will be a great supporting player and a source of inspiration to his new teammates.
