Lincoln City‘s latest signing Sonny Bradley has set his sights on a fifth career promotion after his arrival at the LNER Stadium was confirmed this afternoon.
The 33-year-old found himself as a free agent this summer following his release from Derby County. He did spend the second half of last season on loan at Wycombe Wanderers, showing he still has plenty left in the tank at this level.
He had previously helped the Rams return to the Championship in 2024, a year after playing a part in Luton Town’s promotion to the Premier League. This followed a League One triumph with the Hatters in 2019 and a League Two promotion with Plymouth Argyle in 2017.
Bradley Looking Forward To Reunion
Bradley’s arrival marks the first signing of the transfer window for the Imps. Michael Skubala had perhaps prioritised a signing at the heart of his defence after club captain Paudie O’Connor opted to join Reading earlier this week.
The former Crawley Town man will now reunite with former teammate James Collins, who joined Lincoln from Derby in January. The pair enjoyed success at Pride Park and Luton together, with the centre-back now hoping to repeat that trend. Speaking to official club media following his arrival, he said:
“I’m excited to get going and am ready to play a big part in the season to come. With games played at this level, and promotions, I know what’s coming and the levels expected.
“After speaking with people who are in the building like James Collins and Chris Cohen, and the gaffer, to learn about the environment it quickly became something I wanted to be part of. I feel like I’m a good fit on and off the pitch with where the club is at.
“I spoke with James last week – he spoke really positively about the club and that says a lot. We’ve had success together at Derby County and Luton Town and we’d love to make it a hat-trick here.”
Writer’s View
Lincoln are a team that harbour ambitions of breaking into the Championship but know that their budget compared to others in the division means they need to be smart. Bradley fits that bill perfectly. The signing of James Collins provided somewhat of a catalyst last season, with the Imps become somewhat free scoring during the second half of the campaign. Their latest signing provides that same experience at the other end of the field, which will provide a huge boost to Michael Skubala’s options.
