Bromley Set For Battle To Keep Star Man

Bromley are set to receive transfer interest in star man Michael Cheek this summer, with Wigan Athletic reportedly readying a bid.

The striker has been a key part the Ravens attack since joining from Ebbsfleet United in 2019. He has since made 268 appearances, scoring an impressive 118 times. This included two goals in the National League play-off final against Solihull Moors in 2024, which was eventually won on penalties.

At the age of 32, Cheek was given his first taste of EFL football last season. He made the transition with ease, winning the League Two Golden Boot with 25 goals, six more than Notts County’s Alassana Jata.

Wigan Looking For Major Attacking Reinforcements

News emerged last night that Wigan were closing in on a season-long loan deal for Wrexham legend Paul Mullin. The striker is expected to depart the STōK Cae Ras this summer after falling out of favour last season.

The Latics are looking for a number of quality additions this summer as they look for a more favourable campaign in League One. They finished 15th and never really looked like entering either the promotion or relegation conversation.

It’s now being claimed that alongside Mullin, Wigan boss Ryan Lowe is keen on Bromley’s Cheek. According to Football League Worldthey are interested in bringing the League Two Player of the Season to the Brick Community Stadium. However, the former Braintree Town man is under contract for next season, meaning a fee would need to be negotiated.

Writer’s View

Wigan really struggled for goals last season, so it’s no surprise to see Ryan Lowe targeting a number of strikers to add to his squad. The Latics scored just 40 times in their 46 league outings, the lowest total in League One. Cheek is a player that has scored goals throughout the entirety of his career. There were many who were unsure whether he would be able to translate his non-league form into the EFL, but he more than proved his talent in Bromley’s debut League Two campaign. However, the jump to League One is quite a large one and it’ll be interesting to see if he can take the next leap.
