Bromley have confirmed the signing of Mitch Pinnock from League One outfit Northampton Town.
The 30-year-old returns to Hayes Lane after making eight appearances during Bromley’s 2014/15 Conference South season.
Pinnock had an offer to stay at League One side Northampton, where he made over 200 appearances, but he opted to move away from Sixfields due to family reasons.
Mitch Pinnock’s Career So Far
The Englishman came through the ranks at Southend United before joining Bromley on a free transfer in 2014. Whilst at Bromley, he experienced loan spells at local non-league sides Concord Rangers and Tonbridge Angels.
In 2015, he joined Maidstone United before joining Dover Athletic. In 2018, he was picked up by AFC Wimbledon, where he spent two years, making 73 appearances in all competitions, eventually joining Scottish side Kilmarnock in 2020, where he played 37 times.
In 2021, he moved to the Cobblers and has made 200 appearances since, scoring 25 goals and providing an extra 35 assists. Last season, Pinnock played 46 League One games.
After rejecting a new contract at Sixfields, he has now rejoined Andy Woodman’s Bromley side, who will be looking to further push on from last season’s campaign, which was their first in the EFL.
Building on Bromley’s Impressive Debut Season
There’s no doubt that the Ravens were one of the clubs tipped by many for relegation back down to the National League after achieving promotion. However, Woodman and his side finished 11th, 24 points from the relegation zone in what was a straightforward season.
They’ll be looking to build upon this season, but with 18 players, including eight loanees, departing the club, it leaves the side with only 15 contracted first-team players. Whilst another five are in contract discussions, there’s no guarantee that they are going to sign new deals, leaving Woodman needing to bring in extra reinforcements.
However, signing the experienced 30-year-old isn’t a bad starting place, with the club ambitious and wanting promotion.
Pinnock’s High Hopes
Speaking to the club website, Pinnock said:
“I’m buzzing to be back. The reason I chose Bromley was because after meeting with the manager and the chairman, I was excited about the future ambitions for the club.
“What I can bring to the team is experience of getting promoted out of League Two, and on the pitch, I can bring energy, creativity and character.”
Writer’s View
Whilst losing Pinnock was a big blow to Northampton, Bromley have certainly profited, resigning a player who knows the club and gaining some crucial EFL experience at the same time.
It’s a deal which makes sense for both parties, the 30-year-old gets to be closer to his family while still playing football at a competitive level. Judging by Pinnock’s interview, it sounds like the club are going to push for promotion to the third tier this season, and the 30-year-old could play a huge part in that.
