Northampton Town manager Kevin Nolan has offered a positive transfer window update.
The Cobblers have already confirmed the signing of three players, Jack Perkins, Jack Burroughs and Kamari Swyer, but with 12 senior players under contract and pre-season on the horizon, Nolan and his side’s business is far from concluded at this stage.
Nolan’s Positive Comments
The 42-year-old is going into his first full season in charge at Northampton and will be looking to bring in his own players to try and push on in League One after a disappointing campaign last season.
Speaking to the Northampton Chronicle & Echo, Nolan claimed:
“I am really happy with where we are at the moment. There’s ones we are currently speaking to and we’re waiting for answers from them. Hopefully, we get the right answer, but if we don’t, we’ll look elsewhere, and we have to make sure we’re ready for that.
“We are ready to keep moving forward. If they don’t want to come here and they’re not all in, I’d rather them not come. That’s the biggest thing for me because we’ll be pushing the players hard next season, and we want a strong campaign.

“We don’t want to be looking over our shoulders come the end of the season. I want to be looking up, and we need to squeeze as much as we can out of the staff and the players. The next few weeks will be busy, but I’m really enjoying it, and this is why I took the job.”
Rebuild Needed Following A Rocky Campaign
Although the Cobblers were never really in danger of the drop for the majority of the second half of the season, they ended up only surviving by five points and two places.
As a result, the club opted to release 11 first-team players. Two further players who were offered new contracts also departed Sixfields, Aaron McGowan and Mitch Pinnock, whilst captain Jon Guthrie has penned a new one-year extension.
That meant that the club had only nine senior players under contract, with the three new signings taking their total to 12. It’s fair to say that a big summer window is needed, with Nolan and his team behind the scenes seemingly understanding what needs to be done and the importance of this window.
Writer’s View
Whilst early business is not always good business, Northampton have clearly signalled their intention. However, like Nolan said, there’s a long and busy few weeks ahead to further build the squad to make it ready for the 2025/26 third-tier campaign. There’s no doubt that the club will want to avoid the same fate as they almost experienced last season, and they are making strides to ensure that does not happen.
