‘Still on Track’ – Bristol City Boss On 27-Year-Old’s Injury Progress

Bristol City manager Liam Manning has provided a positive update on Ross McCrorie’s fitness, confirming that the defender is set to rejoin training ahead of a crucial run-in for the Championship side.

McCrorie edging closer to return

The Scottish right-back has been sidelined since limping off in February’s 1-1 draw against Cardiff City in the Severnside derby, having suffered a hamstring injury. However, Manning now expects McCrorie to return to training this week, with the hope that he will be fully involved in preparations for their upcoming fixture against Burnley after the international break.

“Still on track,” Manning told Bristol Live when asked about McCrorie’s recovery. “Hopefully, Ross will join some training this week and fully train for the Burnley week.”

With fellow defender George Tanner undergoing knee surgery last week, McCrorie’s return would provide a much-needed boost for the Robins as they look to maintain their strong Championship form.

International break comes at the right time

Following a 2-1 victory over Norwich City, Bristol City currently sit seventh in the table, level on points with West Brom and the play-off positions. With just eight games remaining in the season, every fixture is crucial in their push for a top-six finish.

Despite the club’s impressive seven-match unbeaten run, Manning believes the international break offers a valuable opportunity for rest and recovery. Several key players, including Luke McNally and Tanner, are currently unavailable, and City have played a demanding 24 games in all competitions since November.

“Definitely,” Manning said when asked if the break had come at a good time. “Huge credit to the staff as well. They’ve worked incredibly hard behind the scenes. It’s a massive operation, from analysis to nutrition, to ensure the players get everything they need.”

Focus shifts to Burnley clash

With players granted some time off before returning to training midweek, Manning has confirmed he will be staying in the UK over the break, with plans to attend a match this weekend.

City’s next fixture will be a crucial away trip to Burnley on Saturday, 29 March, where they will look to build on their momentum and continue their charge towards the play-offs.

Writer’s view

McCrorie’s return could be a game-changer for Bristol City as they prepare for the final stretch of the season. His versatility and defensive presence will be vital, especially given the team’s current injury issues. Manning’s side have shown resilience in recent weeks, and while the break may disrupt their rhythm, it could also allow them to recharge ahead of a decisive period.

With the play-off race intensifying, the Robins will need every player at their best to secure a top-six finish.
