West Bromwich Albion have secured a short-term loan deal with non-league side Alvechurch for promising young goalkeeper Ben Cisse, marking his first taste of senior football.
Cisse set for first-team experience
The 19-year-old shot-stopper, who has progressed through the Albion academy, will spend a month with the Southern Premier Central League outfit as he looks to gain valuable first-team experience.
Cisse, who has represented England at youth levels from under-15 to under-20, is highly rated within the club, but with limited opportunities in West Brom’s first team, a temporary move has been seen as the next step in his development.
At Alvechurch, he will compete for a starting spot with fellow West Brom academy product Ronnie Hollingshead, who has been the club’s first-choice goalkeeper this season but is currently on international duty with Wales’ under-21 squad.

Alvechurch FC
Alvechurch FC is a non-league football club based in Worcestershire, England. They compete in the Southern League Premier Division Central, the seventh tier of English football. They’re currently 11th in the table, 13 points from the play-offs but 11 from the relegation spots.
Founded in 1929, the club plays at Lye Meadow. They’re currently managed by former Blackburn and England keeper Tim Flowers, the perfect role model for a young keeper heading out on loan.
West Brom’s strategic loan system
Cisse’s move continues a trend of Albion’s young talents heading out on loan to develop their game in competitive lower-league football. The Baggies have actively used the loan market this season, sending multiple academy players out for experience.
Among them, left-back Josh Shaw played at Marine FC, midfielder Matt Richards stepped up to Leamington after a spell at Alvechurch, and forward Reyes Cleary is currently making an impact at Hartlepool United following a stint at Walsall.
Writer’s view
For goalkeepers, first-team experience is crucial, and this move should provide Cisse with the opportunity to develop under real match pressure. Alvechurch’s solid defensive record this season suggests he will be playing in a well-structured environment, which could aid his progression.
If he impresses, further loan spells at higher levels could follow, putting him on the path toward West Brom’s senior squad in the future.
