“We Didn’t Show It” – Plymouth Argyle Boss Laments Performance

Miron Muslic was not happy with his side’s mentality as Plymouth Argyle lost to relegation rivals Hull City.

The Tigers bested their foes in a win which saw them extend the gap away from Argyle to six points thanks to goals from Leeds United loanee Joe Gelhardt and Abu Kamara.

Muslic Berates Mentality

Speaking to BBC Radio Devon following the result in East Yorkshire, the Austrian manager was displeased with his side’s showing. He said:

“It’s not about changing the players, it about changing the mentality.

“The Championship is (about) fight, it’s physical, it’s duels, and I think we showed it in an excellent way over the last couple of weeks and we didn’t show it tonight. If we don’t show it, we don’t have the quality to compete.”

Despite positive results since Muslic took over at Home Park, including wins against Millwall and West Bromwich Albion, Plymouth have failed to gain ground on the teams above them in the playoff race, and even fell a position thanks to Luton Town‘s win over Portsmouth over the weekend.

They welcome Sheffield Wednesday to Devon on the weekend which is followed up by crucial matches against Portsmouth and Derby County prior to the international break.

Writer’s View

Miron Muslic has brought a positive energy to the club and cannot be faulted for how he has galvanised the side, but this result is a real blow to their survival hopes. The Pilgrims looked largely lifeless until the dying embers of the game and were dominated by Hull City throughout. Muslic now has to reinvigorate his side ahead of those crucial matches against Portsmouth and Derby as if they drop points in both, it could seal their fate and send them back down to the third tier after two seasons. Their fate is no longer in their hands but they have to put themselves in the best position possible to have a chance of escaping the bottom three.
