Portsmouth captain Marlon Pack believes that his side are in a great situation to survive the drop in the Championship this season.
Pompey have put themselves in a commanding position across recent weeks with three straight wins, which rocketed them up to 17th place and eight points clear of the bottom three. They had a chance to extend that advantage further in their last match but lost to 22nd-placed Luton Town.
“Now Down To Us”
Speaking to the BBC’s Radio Solent, the 33-year-old gave his thoughts on their survival chances this season. He said:
“Realistically we’re in a fantastic position. We now need to win as many games as we can before the end of the season to stay in the division.
“Results, bar the odd poor game in the November period, have been really consistent and our performances have been too. We are starting to show that we belong at this level, it’s now down to us to make sure we get over the line.”
The Fratton Park side face arguably their toughest opponent of the season in Leeds United on the weekend, with the Whites in a commanding position to secure promotion. They also face Plymouth Argyle and Preston North End prior to the international break.

Writer’s View
Whilst not being standout victories against Oxford United, Queens Park Rangers and Cardiff City, they were three crucial results which have put Portsmouth in a very comfortable position to stay in the Championship next season. However, as Marlon Pack said, it is up to the team to get over the line and secure their goal and complacency whilst in this position could cost them dearly. The game against Plymouth could be their next shot at three points, with Miron Muslic’s side conceding the most of any side and they have struggled in their recent matches, all to sides around them in the table.
