Bolton Wanderers Recieve Injury Boost As Season Winds Down

Bolton Wanderers have received a timely injury boost as Carlos Mendes Gomes prepares to make his long-awaited return from injury.

The Guinea Bissau international has been sidelined for a year following an Achilles rupture but is now pushing for selection under new boss Steven Schumacher.

After a brief return in January, Mendes Gomes had to halt his comeback, but following an hour-long appearance for the B Team earlier this week, he could be in contention for the squad to face Wrexham this weekend—especially if Victor Adeboyejo remains sidelined with a knee issue.

Bolton Strengthen Ahead of Tough Schedule

With a packed fixture list ahead—including a home clash against league leaders Birmingham City on Tuesday, followed by trips to Burton Albion and Bristol Rovers—Schumacher acknowledges that every available player will be needed.

“We’re going to need everyone over the next couple of weeks but we’re looking forward to it. Wrexham is a massive game and we know how difficult it will be, but Leyton Orient went there and won last week so we can take some confidence from that.”

Schumacher is pleased to welcome Mendes Gomes and Chris Forino back into the fold as Wanderers gear up for an intense play-off push.

A Return at the Right Time

Mendes Gomes suffered his Achilles injury 12 months ago during a defeat at Wigan, just as he was establishing himself in the first team. His goals against Northampton Town and Cambridge United had shown his value, and his return could be crucial as Bolton look to solidify their attacking options.

With Adeboyejo’s availability uncertain, Mendes Gomes’ return could provide much-needed depth in the final third.

Confidence Growing Under Schumacher

Midfielder Aaron Morley believes Wanderers are a different team under Schumacher and go into the Wrexham clash full of confidence after five wins in their last six league matches.

“Obviously the gaffer has a different philosophy of football. I think we’ve all just bought into it and it’s looking good on the pitch. If we just keep working at that, God knows where we’ll end up.”

Morley emphasised the importance of focus and consistency, especially with the competition for places intensifying as key players return from injury.

Writer’s View

Mendes Gomes’ return could not have come at a better time for Bolton. With a demanding schedule ahead and a play-off push in full swing, having an extra attacking option will be invaluable. If he can rediscover the form he showed before his injury, he could play a key role in the coming weeks. Schumacher’s Bolton are building momentum, and Mendes Gomes might just be the added spark they need.
