Cardiff City delivered a crucial victory in their battle against relegation, overcoming fellow strugglers Hull City with a hard-fought win at home.
The triumph sees the Bluebirds leapfrog their opponents in the Championship table, climbing to 19th place, while Hull now find themselves just three points above the relegation zone.
Poor First Half Amid Tension
The tension of the occasion was palpable, and it showed in a first half that will not live long in the memory. Both sides, fully aware of the stakes, struggled to find rhythm, resulting in a lacklustre 45 minutes devoid of genuine attacking threat.
Callum Robinson was the only player to produce anything close to an effort on goal for Cardiff, though his shots failed to trouble Hull goalkeeper Ivor Pandur. As the interval approached, frustration grew among the home supporters, with a five-minute stoppage-time announcement met with groans around Cardiff City Stadium.

Better Second Half
However, the game sprang into life after the restart. The Bluebirds began with renewed energy, testing Pandur through Perry Ng’s well-struck free-kick. Their persistence soon paid off as Chris Willock’s delivery was only partially cleared, falling kindly for Robinson, who watched the ball drop before guiding a deflected volley into the bottom corner.
The goal lifted Cardiff’s spirits, but as the game wore on, so did their nerves. Hull pressed for an equaliser, their best opportunity coming late on when Abu Kamara whipped in a dangerous cross. Alfie Jones found himself unmarked inside the box, but his header was straight at Cardiff goalkeeper Ethan Horvath.
The final moments saw Cardiff retreat deeper, desperate to hold onto their slender advantage. Hull pushed forward, but their attacking efforts lacked conviction, allowing the Bluebirds to see out a valuable win.
Writer’s View
This was far from a classic, but Cardiff won’t care. At this stage of the season, results matter more than performances, and they showed the kind of resilience needed to survive in the Championship. The improvement after half-time was key, with Robinson’s composed finish proving the difference. Meanwhile, Hull’s struggles continue – their inability to convert chances could prove costly in the weeks ahead. With the battle at the bottom heating up, both teams have plenty of work to do, but for Cardiff, this was a massive step in the right direction.
