Preston North End Considering Permanent Move For Former Loanee

Preston North End are eyeing up a permanent move for Leicester City goalkeeper Daniel Iversen, according to Football League World.

Iversen was on loan at Deepdale from January 2021 until the end of the 2021-22 season and the Lilywhites appear keen on a move to bring the Dane back to Lancashire on a permanent basis. Iversen has found himself out of favour at Leicester, falling as low as fourth in the pecking order between the sticks, and a move appears necessary to resurrect his career.

Despite his lack of appearances at the Premier League club, Iversen has plenty of experience to his name. Alongside his spells at Preston, he has had loans at the likes of Oldham Athletic, Rotherham United and Belgian side OH Leuven, as well as a temporary stint at fellow Championship side Stoke City in 2023-24.

A move for Iversen would reportedly be welcome for both parties, with Iversen clearly out of the picture at Leicester, and with Preston already planning for next season. Current goalkeeper Freddie Woodman is out of contract in the summer and Preston appear to be making provisions for his exit, with the Englishman yet to sign a new deal.

Iversen would be a popular replacement, having won the club’s Player of the Season award while on loan in 2021-22. His contract at the King Power Stadium runs out this summer, and Preston appear keen to make the most of the prospect of a free deal for the 27-year-old. The signing of Iversen would be another move for Preston looking ahead to the 2025-26 season, with the likes of Liam Lindsay and Andrew Hughes already tied down to new deals. After an inconsistent campaign, reinforcements are needed, and Iversen could be part of that.

Writer’s View

This is a sensible move for Iversen and Preston. The player is highly unlikely to break into the Leicester side and needs to be first-choice at this stage of his career. Preston can provide that, as well as an environment where he is known and loved. With Preston’s own goalkeeping situation unclear, a move for Iversen makes sense.
