Our Three Predictions For Norwich City vs Preston North End:

  • First Prediction For Norwich City vs Preston North End: Match Result – Norwich City – 18/25
  • Second Prediction For Norwich City vs Preston North End: Over 2.5 Goals – 9/10
  • Third Prediction For Norwich City vs Preston North End: Josh Sargent To Score Anytime – 43/20

First Prediction For Norwich City vs Preston North End: Match Result – Norwich City – 18/25

Preston’s FA Cup exploits on Saturday may serve them well in the long-term, but it does mean they will be fatigued ahead of this trip to Norwich on Tuesday evening. North End were taken to penalties on Saturday by League One promotion chasers Wycombe Wanderers, playing extra time before winning on spot-kicks. The drama at Carrow Road on Saturday also extended until the final moments, disappointingly though Norwich dropped points late on against Derby. But the Canaries remain on the cusp of the top seven, and should come out on top under the lights.

Second Prediction For Norwich City vs Preston North End: Over 2.5 Goals – 9/10

Norwich’s goalscoring appears to be on the up again, scoring seven in their past three. Five of them goals though came in the thrashing of Swansea at the end of January, with three goalless outings from their forwards coming prior to that big victory over the Welsh side. Preston failed to break the deadlock at the weekend in their cup tie against Wycombe, playing 120 minutes without a goal. Previously though, four of their past five in all competitions have ended in a 2-1 scoreline, and the same outcome on Tuesday feels likely, although it might not be in their favour.

Third Prediction For Norwich City vs Preston North End: Josh Sargent To Score Anytime – 43/20

Josh Sargent’s return to the Canaries side has been particularly timely given the six game suspension to Borja Sainz. The American international has played five times since his return including three starts, scoring four times when included from the off. He has thirteen goal contributions this term, and added with Sainz’ fifteen goals as he returns from suspension, this makes them a deadly force. Expect the divisions top scorer, along with Sargent, to make an impact on Tuesday evening.

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head-To-Head:

The Canaries inconsistent form continued as they missed the chance to move into the Championship Play-Off places on Saturday. A late penalty from Jerry Yates saw Derby take a point at Carrow Road, following two straight wins over Watford and Swansea.

Josh Sargent was on target on Saturday and scored the only goal at Vicarage Road a week ago, but he was joined by teammates Dobbin, Crnac and Marcondes in finding the back of the net against the Swans. That was a welcome return to form, after Norwich had lost three on the spin in all competitions, scoring none. 2025 had begun with consecutive wins over Luton and Coventry before the league losses to Sheffield United and Leeds.

North End will arrive in East Anglia in good spirits with a solid start to the calendar year. The Lilywhites are on a run of just three defeats in seventeen, although they were defeated in their last league outing at Blackburn at the end of January.

But that Lancashire derby loss was the first time Preston had been defeated since New Year’s Day, enjoying a five game unbeaten streak in the middle of January. Their loss at West Brom was shrugged off with a couple of draws against Oxford and Luton, before turning that positive momentum into narrow victories over Watford and Middlesbrough.

The FA Cup has proved valuable for Preston, as they have twice overcome League One opposition to progress to Round Five. Third tier promotion chasers Wycombe were dispatched at the weekend, which may leave Paul Heckingbottom’s side fatigued. Norwich meanwhile crashed out at the first hurdle, soundly beaten by Brighton 4-0.

The Lilywhites have another Lancashire derby on the horizon, looking to find a way past Burnley’s incredibly resilient defence in the Saturday lunchtime kick-off. After consecutive home games in the past four days, Norwich make the trip to Hull this upcoming weekend.

Back in October, this game finished a 2-2 draw after the Canaries recovered from being 2-0 down after twelve minutes to take a point. That continued their good recent form against Preston, unbeaten in their past four outings. This included a 4-0 victory at Deepdale in 2023, one of 23 wins to Preston’s 18 across the history of this encounter.
