Stoke City Make Free Agent Swoop After Window Closes

Stoke City have completed the signing of 18-year-old forward Favour Fawunmi following his exit from West Ham United last week.

The young talent has signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with the Potters, keeping him at the club until the summer of 2027. During his time with the Hammers, he had shown promise, and Stoke City were quick to secure his services after a successful trial period. The move marks a new chapter for the forward, who will be eager to continue his development with Stoke’s academy setup.

“We are excited to add Favour to our squad. He’s a talented forward with plenty of potential, and we look forward to seeing how he develops here at Stoke City,” said a club spokesperson.

Fawunmi Had Other Admirers, but Stoke City Sealed the Deal

After leaving West Ham, Fawunmi had attracted interest from other clubs. Greek side PAOK reportedly eyed a move for the youngster, and he had also spent time on trial with QPR last year. Despite offers from other clubs, including a new contract from West Ham that would have kept him until 2026, Fawunmi opted for a move to Stoke to strengthen his chances of breaking into a first-team role.

Stoke City had already been monitoring Fawunmi’s development and were in a strong position to secure his signature, thanks to the trial opportunity that gave them a closer look at his abilities. The Potters will now hope to nurture Fawunmi’s talents and provide him with the platform he needs to progress in his career.

Stoke City’s Transfer Activity

While January saw a relatively quiet transfer window for Stoke City, Mark Robins’ side did make a couple of key additions. Ali Al-Hamadi joined on loan from Ipswich Town, offering another attacking option, while Josh Wilson-Esbrand arrived from Manchester City for the remainder of the season. However, Stoke’s focus has now shifted to their league and cup ambitions.

Writer’s View

Favour Fawunmi’s signing represents a positive step for Stoke City as they add a promising young forward to their ranks. His potential and development will be key for the club’s future, and if he can make the most of this opportunity, Fawunmi could become a valuable asset to the team. With the support of Mark Robins and the club’s academy setup, Fawunmi has the chance to showcase his abilities and potentially break into the first team in the years to come.
