Oldham Athletic have completed the signing of versatile winger Joe Pritchard on a deal until June 2. The 28-year-old joins after mutually terminating his contract with MK Dons and is available for immediate selection.
Pritchard Strengthens Oldham’s Options
The former Accrington Stanley man, who can operate across midfield and in defence, adds valuable experience to Micky Mellon’s squad. His arrival comes at a crucial time, with Oldham looking to bolster their squad for the remainder of the season.
Speaking after completing his move, Pritchard expressed his excitement at the opportunity.
“I’m delighted to sign. I’ve been down south but the opportunity to come back up north was perfect for me. I’m just really excited to play football again. I’ve had a year where I’ve not played as many games as I would have liked, so this is a great chance for me.”
Pritchard describes himself as “agile, electric and versatile,” with an ability to contribute both defensively and in attack.

Career Journey
Pritchard began his career at Tottenham Hotspur’s academy before moving to Bolton Wanderers in 2018, where he made his professional debut against Cardiff City in February 2019.
He spent five seasons at Accrington Stanley, playing 112 games and scoring 18 goals while helping them maintain their League One status before their relegation in 2023. A move to MK Dons followed, but he struggled for game time, making just four appearances before leaving to join Oldham.
Mellon Pleased with New Addition
Oldham manager Micky Mellon welcomed Pritchard’s arrival, highlighting his versatility and attacking threat.
“Joe is a very versatile player who can operate in multiple positions, so we’re pleased to bring him in. With the injuries we have and the amount of games coming in, competition and squad depth are essential.
Oldham Athletic Promotion Hopes
Oldham are hoping to regain the place in the Football League they lost in 2022. The last two seasons have seen finishes outside the play-offs in the fifth tier, but this season is different. The Latics are currently fourth in the table, and despite being 12 points off leaders Barnet, they have two games in hand. The difference between them and Altrincham, just outside the play-offs, is nine points, but the Robins have a game in hand.
Writer’s View
Oldham’s signing of Pritchard appears to be a smart move, bringing in an experienced and adaptable player at a key stage of the season. His ability to play across multiple positions will provide much-needed depth, and if he can recapture his best form, he could play a vital role in Oldham’s campaign.
