Hull City player Xavier Simons is in talks with Wycombe Wanderers and another unnamed League One club over a loan move, according to Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke on X.
The midfielder, who can also be deployed in defence if needed, is reportedly close to a move to Adams Park after turning down other moves in the window. A switch to Buckinghamshire would represent an opportunity for Simons to get back to first-team football having fallen down the pecking order under new Hull boss Ruben Selles.
Simons had previously shown promise this season under former coach Tim Walter, but the signings of Matt Crooks and Elliot Matazo mean a decent amount of minutes is unlikely for the 21-year-old. A temporary move would help Simons get playing time under his belt and may lead to a change in fortunes for his career, either through a permanent move at the end of the season or a chance to reassert himself at the MKM Stadium, depending on what league Hull are in.
Should the former Chelsea youth player make the move down a division, he would be the club’s first signing under new head coach Mike Dodds, with the former Sunderland and Birmingham City coach appointed this week following the departure of club legend Matt Bloomfield to Luton Town. Simons would join a team in a good position in the third tier, lying in the automatic promotion spots after an impressive first half of the season.
The Chairboys will be hoping the midfielder will be able to drive them to promotion should he join, with Simons holding valuable Championship experience. A good spell could see Wycombe go in for Simons permanently, and would be confident he could help them whichever division they find themselves in.
As for Hull, the deal will allow them to focus their attention on the new signings as they look to survive in the Championship, with as much quality as possible needed to stave off relegation.

This is a move that makes sense for all parties. Hull have added great midfield quality in this window as they look for survival, so Simons would likely not get a look in. Wycombe are looking to go up so will want all the depth and quality they can get. Simons provides both Championship and League One experience, so his loan signing is a no brainer. For the player, this is a great opportunity to play football and further his career, whether at Hill, Wycombe or elsewhere.
