26-Year-Old Given Birmingham City Appearance Assurances

Emil Hansson has been reassured of his place in Birmingham City’s plans by manager Chris Davies, despite missing a large portion of the season through injury.

The Swedish winger, a summer signing from Eredivisie side Heracles Almelo, has endured a frustrating debut campaign in England, missing 18 matches through two separate injuries. Hansson, 26, was a key figure in Birmingham’s early-season form, starting nine league games as the Blues recorded a seven-match winning streak.

With one goal and one assist in 17 appearances across all competitions, Hansson has yet to replicate the prolific form he showed in the Netherlands, where he notched 46 goal contributions in his final two seasons. However, Davies remains confident in his ability.

Chris Davies Stands by Hansson

Despite his injury setbacks, Hansson has already done enough to convince his manager of his importance to the team.

“The good thing is that he’s proven that he’s been a key part of the team at the start of the season, so it’s not like he’s got that to prove. We know what he can do, so he’s just got to get back fit and do it again.” – Chris Davies

Davies acknowledged Hansson’s frustration at missing games but assured him that he remains a vital part of Birmingham’s promotion push.

Building Fitness and Avoiding Setbacks

Hansson is currently sidelined again, with no definitive return date. His previous comeback attempt saw him thrown straight back into matches, rather than being eased in through training, which ultimately led to his re-injury.

Reflecting on the situation, Davies said:

“It is very frustrating on Emil’s part. It’s been stop-start and that’s the last thing you want. He got in the team and stayed in the team, then picked up an injury and re-injured, so it has been frustrating. Hopefully, once he gets back from this, he can finish the season strongly.”

Writer’s View

Hansson’s injuries have been a blow to both player and club, but Davies’ faith in him is a testament to his impact when fit. With Birmingham City firmly in the promotion race, his return could be a crucial boost in the final stretch of the season. The key will be ensuring he rebuilds fitness properly this time to avoid further setbacks.
