Exeter City Boss Admits New Appointment Changes Approach

Exeter City is preparing to take on Burton Albion today looking to end a dismal run of form that has seen them lose five of their last seven matches.

In normal circumstances, a game against second-bottom Burton may be just what the doctor ordered to get back to winning ways. However, Grecians’ boss Gary Caldwell is wary of the new managerial appointment made by their opponents this week, as reported by Devon Live.

Gary Bowyer In At The Pirelli

Struggling Burton has finally made a decision on their new manager, bringing in former Blackburn Rovers boss Gary Bowyer. Caldwell admits the hiring of Bowyer has changed his thought process.

“It has changed our thinking slightly. We were preparing for a Burton team that had been playing under a different manager and playing in a certain way.”

Caldwell was complimentary of the Brewers’ new boss, a man who has guided Blackpool to promotion and Dundee to the Scottish Championship title.

“We know that Gary Bowyer is an excellent manager, he has an excellent CV in terms of promotions north and south of the border, so we have to prepare for a slightly different version of Burton.”

Looking To Avoid A Repeat Of Blackpool

Exeter have first hand experience of the ‘new manager bounce’ having been defeated by Blackpool just days after the appointment of Steve Bruce. Caldwell is keen to avoid a repeat.

“I think the biggest thing is we learn from the Blackpool experience is that they will be a different team in terms of energy, the stadium will be different, so we have to prepare for that as well.”

“The biggest thing is we have to be ourselves. We have to prepare to be the best version of Exeter City and if we do that, then it will be Burton that are more worried about us.”

Determined To Take Exeter Forward

Despite their poor run of form, Caldwell is determined to progress Exeter City Football Club.

“I want this group to be better and push this group to limits never seen.”

“I just believe that this group of players can be better, so it’s my job to push them and it’s their job to work together and question the staff, say what they need to get to their very best and together.”

Writer’s View

Bowyer has had limited time to implement his own ideas but you would expect to see the players with increased energy and effort today as they look to impress their new boss.
