Luke Williams has revealed that Swansea City are preparing an offer to free agent Cyrus Christie following his trial.
The defender has been in South Wales since the last international break and was briefly joined by former Sheffield Wednesday man Adam Reach before he was let go two weeks ago.
Contract Under Discussion
Speaking to the press ahead of The Swans’ clash with Oxford United this weekend, Williams confirmed that discussions were underway with Christie and his agent in former City legend Wayne Routledge. (Quotes via Wales Online):
“We are talking with Cyrus and to his agent, who is somebody we are very fond of, Mr [Wayne] Routledge.
“He is communicating with us. We are trying to speak to Cyrus and Wayne to make sure we get two happy parties and then we’ll see.
“Cyrus has been great. Everyone who knows him before is really fond of him, so hopefully we can get something done.”
Christie has been without a club since the summer after leaving Hull City. He had previously gone on loan to the Swansea.com Stadium whilst at Fulham, playing 23 times under now-Southampton boss Russell Martin.
New Deal For Striker
More positive news this week came in the form of a new contract for striker Liam Cullen, extending his stay in South Wales past the end of this season. Williams added:
“He is a really good player and a really good character and he is a product of the academy, so I am really happy.
“We know we have struggled to hit the back of the net as many times as we want but his all-round performance, what he has given to the squad, has been excellent.
“He has shown his commitment and we have shown it back.”
Writer’s View
Swansea City are really pleased with how Cyrus Christie has trained over the past month and now the club are rewarding him with that in the form of a contract. It certainly helps when Christie’s agent is a former Swans icon in Wayne Routledge who will certainly want to assist a club he did so much with. He will be familiar already with some teammates, most notably Jamie Grimes who played in front of him whilst previously at the club in 2022.
