Tim Walter has revealed that Liam Millar has suffered an injury to his Anterior Cruciate Ligament, with Hull City facing Portsmouth next weekend.
The Canadian was signed for an undisclosed fee from Swiss giants FC Basel this summer, returning to the Championship full-time after a loan switch to Preston North End.
Season Over For Winger
Millar was selected by The Tigers to play against Burnley, but the 25-year-old was forced off the pitch after just 13 minutes. Walter then revealed the severity of the injury following their most recent match, a 1-1 draw to Derby County, to BBC Radio Humberside.
“He has an ACL, he is out for the whole season. For him it’s so frustrating, and I am so with him. I was so shocked, and so was he.
“It’s not about the club, and not about us, it’s about him and I’m so sad.
“It’s not easy in this moment but we will give him all the help we can give him,” he said. “We’ll support him with all of our energy, but that’s the situation.
“He was crying but it’s a situation you have to understand if you want to play football and get injured. It’s maybe the most difficult injury you can have.”
Who Plays Against Pompey?
City welcome Portsmouth to East Yorkshire this weekend, but the absence of Millar leaves a permanent opening for one of the squad’s other wingers to stake their claim to a regular first-team spot. Abu Kamara was the one who came on in Millar’s place against The Clarets, and played the ex-Norwich City man played the full ninety against Derby.
Dogukan Sinik was a fellow summer signing but has yet to feature for Hull since arriving back from his loan to Hatayspor. He recently made his feelings known that he would love to get back into the first team, and with Millar now out, would likely be a candidate for more regular game time.
Writer’s View
Liam Millar is out for the season and now Hull will need to look at new options. They have not been adverse to loans in the past, with Fabio Carvalho being a notable recent example. It would be likely that Abu Kamara will continue as the new choice on the left wing, following a successful game against Burnley where he assisted Xavier Simons for the opener.
