Burnley Forward Out of Action as Injury List Grows

Burnley have been dealt another injury blow as Scott Parker confirmed that forward Lyle Foster is unlikely to feature in Saturday’s Championship game against Sheffield Wednesday.

Foster reportedly injured his knee whilst on international duty with South Africa. The forward scored in a 5-0 victory over Congo before coming off on a stretcher following a clash with Congo’s goalkeeper. He then missed Bafana Bafana’s second Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Tuesday.

Burnley’s Scott Parker Rules Out Foster

Currently, Foster is undergoing medical observation, which will reveal the extent of his injury. As a result, Parker was unable to explain the details of the injury, when speaking to the Burnley Express. However, the Clarets’ boss did rule out the forward for the upcoming game against Sheffield Wednesday.

We don’t know the full extent at the moment, He came back, we got him back early. He came back into the country yesterday and he’s got an appointment this afternoon to really get a clear idea of it.

I wouldn’t want to go into too much detail or comment too much, we will wait and see what the experts say and hopefully by the back end of the week or early next week the picture will be a little bit clearer in terms of understanding it.

I think it’s fair to say we rule him out of this weekend.

Foster has been a central figure in the Burnley attack this season. The South African nation has started eight of the Clarets’ opening nine Championship games, registering one goal and assist, per Transfermarkt.

But the centre-forward joins a growing list of Burnley players in the treatment room at Turf Moor. Jordan Beyer, Hjalmar Ekdal, Hannes Delcroix, Joe Worrall, Aaron Ramsey, Manuel Benson and Nathan Redmond are also ruled out of this weekend’s fixture against the Owls.

Burnley are on a six-match unbeaten run in the Championship – which started with a 1-1 Lancashire Derby draw with Blackburn. The Clarets are third in the table and just one point behind Sheffield United.

Writer’s View

Parker has relied on Foster heavily early in the 2024/25 season. The 24-year-old has been the attacking focal point in the 4-2-3-1 Burnley formation. However, Parker has decent alternatives in veteran Jay Rodríguez and Andreas Hountondji. With more playing time this season, it seems likely that Rodríguez will be tasked with leading the line at Hillsborough, while Hannibal Mejbri, Luca Koleosho and Jaidon Anthony should continue in the attacking three behind.
