Our 3 predictions for Port Vale vs Fleetwood Town

  • Prediction 1: Port Vale to win or draw 1/5
  • Prediction 2: Both teams to score 16/25
  • Prediction 3: Over 2.5 goals 4/5

1st prediction for Port Vale vs Fleetwood Town: Port Vale to win or draw

This is a pretty straightforward prediction to make. With Port Vale top of the league at the moment, they go into this game as favourites to stay in the lead. The Valiants are eight games unbeaten in League Two after a poor start which has seen them rocket up the table, and you’d expect that to continue here. Fleetwood will be tough opponents though and with their strong defence may keep Port Vale at bay.

2nd prediction for Port Vale vs Fleetwood Town: Both teams to score

Both sides have been fairly impressive, if unremarkable, in front of goal, thus far this season. Having come down from League One they have some serious attacking talent, and both sides are likely to hit the net if they perform to their capabilities. The two teams have ach scored 16 goals this season so are likely to score at least one this weekend, but strong defences will be in the way. The visitors in particular are strong at the back and have only conceded nine this season, a record that belies their current position in 11th.

3rd prediction for Port Vale vs Fleetwood Town: Over 2.5 goals scored

This is perhaps more of a risky bet than the others, but it’s one that makes sense with the quality in both teams. Both sides are on a strong unbeaten run where they’ve found their shooting boots and one would assume this would continue into this game, though it will be a tough test for both sides. It’s hard to see this being an ultra high scoring game with both sides also being strong at the back, but there should also be goals. With Port Vale top of the league, they are a team to be feared and have got to their position having picked up their attacking quality recently. Fleetwood have scored the same amount, though, so they are no pushovers and will certainly test the hosts.

Full preview of the game: last results and Head to Head

This is an intriguing clash of two teams who are bang in form at the moment; something has to give in this game and one side’s strong spell will come to an end. On paper, it’s the league leaders against a mid-table side, but it’s not that simple. Fleetwood are in just as good form as Vale and have a stronger defence, having conceded three fewer goals. With Port Vale coming in off the back of a victory over MK Dons and Fleetwood an EFL Trophy victory over Barrow, confidence will be high for both teams.

In terms of the fixture’s past, it’s fairly even, with the points tending to switch between the teams. The clubs played each other three times last year, twice in League One and once in the early stages of the EFL Cup. Each outcome was represented once in these three games, with the Fleetwood winning 3-0 and Port Vale winning 3-2. If this is replicated on Saturday we should be in for a cracker, which could go either way.
